“The Peopling of Canada” is designed to create a personal connection to Canada's history, in all its regional and cultural diversity. Unlike most approaches to history, which begin with the arrival of Europeans, this project takes the learner more than 10,000 years into the past. Students involved in our project embark upon a personal journey from the ancient past to the industrial age in order to gain an understanding of the cultural and racial groups that have shaped our nation’s history.

In expanding our historical horizons, the project covers related disciplines including archaeology, aboriginal studies, history, geography and environmental studies. The relationship between culture and the environment and the interaction between cultures are central themes in our approach to Canadian history.
