Assignment:
1. The year is 1900 (any particular year could be selected). Write a narrative or journal from your family’s perspective. Where does your family live at this point? Have they been settled there for a period of time or have they been there as far back as you could research? Are they planning on settling somewhere else in Canada, on the continent, or do they plan to travel to another continent? Tell how your family came to be where they are at this time. If they plan on moving, tell where and why. What discussions are taking place among family members?

2. Your ancestor has just found out that some event has happened, and the family has to immigrate to Canada. Alternatively, your family is in North America, and they have to move to another part of the continent. Create a conversation between family members about what has happened, and reactions of family members. Could the reason for the family moving be classified under reasons of globalization, sovereignty, justice, or economic, other or more than one reason? Present it to class.

3.Imagine that you have both Mi’kmaq and French ancestors. They witness the arrival of the French at Port Royal. Write a newspaper account of the first French settlement at Port Royal a) from a Mi’kmaq perspective and b) from a French perspective.
